The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets girls basketball team started a busy week last week by hosting Seneca last Tuesday, Feb. 4. The Hornets used a strong first half to claim a 56-8 victory over the visiting Royals. Emma Wall was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 15 points. Wall was followed by Elizabeth Wright (14 points), Kiley Manning (seven points), Natalie Wright (six points), Claudia Walz (five points), Macy Mitchell and Claire Wright (three points each), Isabella Bunders (two points) and Violet Mitchell (one point).
The Hornets traveled to Ithaca two nights later and the two teams played to a low scoring first half which ended in a 18-18 tie. W-S turned up the defensive intensity in the second half however as they limited the Bulldogs to just seven points in the second half as the Hornets pulled away for a 50-25 victory. Elizabeth Wright (14 points) and Manning (10 points) led the Hornets offense in the win.
Wauzeka-Steuben concluded the week when they journeyed to La Farge last Friday night and the Hornets left with a 67-21 victory to extend their current winning streak to four. The Hornets improved their overall record to 15-3 and 11-1 in the Ridge & Valley Conference.
Following this last Monday night’s non-conference home game against Boscobel, the Hornets finish the week with a pair of home games against Riverdale tomorrow night and Potosi/Cassville on Friday night.
