Denise E. Nelson, 68, of West Union, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 21, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

 

Denise Elaine Berger was born Aug. 22, 1956, in Oelwein, the daughter of Robert Leo and Delores LaRayne (Miller) Berger. In 1974 she graduated from Edgewood-Colesberg High School. On May 28, 1988, Denise was united into marriage to William Craig Nelson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She enjoyed bowling, Facebook, putting together diamond paintings, reading, fishing and going on family vacations.

 

She is survived by her husband, Bill Nelson, of West Union; three children, Christopher Grocholski of McGregor, Cassie (Tyler) Rothmeyer of Osage and Abigail (Nickolas Jarka) Nelson of West Union; four grandchildren, Hailey Schaer, Hannah Schaer, Jamison Rothmeyer and Ella Rothmeyer; and brother David (Deborah Logan) Berger of Bluffton, S.C.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Delores Berger; mother and father-in-law, Dee and Barney Nelson; stepdaughter, Kerry Nelson; niece, Kellie Velde; and sister in law, Linda Nelson.

 

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on May 17, 2025, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.

 

Inurnment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
