The MFL MarMac boys wrestling team went 2-1 in duals last week and had multiple place winners at the annual MFL MarMac Invitational.

The Bulldogs’ lone dual loss on Jan. 14 came to host North Fayette Valley, who secured six matches by fall and earned another five victories due to forfeit in a 66-18 win. MFL MarMac wrestlers Keith Anderson (132), Rylan Schroeder (150), John Martins (157), Caleb Zuercher (190), Dracen Howe (215) and Will Howes (285) were all pinned. Tacoma Thompson (113) earned the lone fall for the Bulldogs, while Gavin Kishman and Quinn McGeough won due to forfeit at 138 and 165 pounds.

Against South Winneshiek, MFL MarMac was able to come out on top 45-28, led by pins from Howes, Thompson, Anderson and Howe. McGeough won a 10-7 decision, and Kishman, Schroeder and Martins secured victories via forfeit.

Zuercher lost a 13-1 major decision, and the Warriors earned points off Bulldog forfeits at 120, 126, 144 and 175 pounds. There was a double forfeit at 106.

The third dual was a 54-12 win for the Bulldogs, who wrestled in just three matches against the small Panther squad. Kishman and Zuercher both pinned their opponents and Schroeder lost by fall. Wolfgang Martins Saboria, Anderson, Martins, McGeough, Howe, Howes and Thompson all picked up forfeit victories. Tripoli benefitted from an MFL MarMac forfeit at 106, and there were double forfeits at 126, 144 and 175.

Bulldog heavyweight Howes continued his tournament success at the Jan. 18 MFL MarMac Invitational. The junior needed less than one minute to pin his way through the first two matches, then earned another fall over Clayton Ridge’s Gannon Jaster to take the top spot on the podium. This was his third tournament win this season.

McGeough placed second at 165 pounds. The senior came into the day with just one lost, and picked up a fall and technical fall in his opening matches. Olyver Fuller of Camanche got the best of him in the title bout, however.

Thompson and Anderson finished third in their respective 113- and 132-pound weight brackets, while Kishman was fourth at 138, Schroeder fifth at 144 and Howe sixth at 215. Gage Paulus (285), Tristan Hoopes (215) and Ty Koeller (132) did not place.

The Bulldogs have just one event on the schedule this week: the John Byers Invitational at Midland on Saturday, Jan. 25.
