The Seneca Royals boys basketball team sent out 2024 the same way they welcomed in 2025: with hard fought victories.
The Royals wrapped up 2024 last Monday, Dec. 30, when they hosted the Cassville Comets. The two teams played to a 27-27 tie at halftime before the Royals pulled away in the second half for a 68-56 win. Four players scored in double figures for Seneca: Dawson Davidson (16 points), Reggie George (15 points), Briar Wall (11 points) and Gage Wall (10 points).
Also contributing to the Royals scoring total were Jackson Konichek (eight points), Garret Baker (five points) and Hunter Hagensick (three points). Konichek grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the team and Gage Wall added 11 rebounds (and six assists).
Seneca traveled to Kickapoo three nights later to take on the Panthers in their first game of 2025. After holding a slim 26-24 lead at halftime, the visiting Royals once again pulled away in the second half for a 64-51 victory. The scoring attack was once again balanced for Seneca as four players reached double figures, led by Konichek’s 14 points.  Hagensick and Davidson each had 13 points, while George finished with 10. The team also got nine points from Gage Wall, three points from Baker and two from Owen Oppriecht.
The Royals stepped out of conference play the next night as they welcomed Cashton to town and came away with a dominating non-conference victory. The Royals jumped out to a 47-8 halftime lead before finishing with a 78-23 victory. Much like the Royals other victories during the week, they got a balanced scoring attack with four players leading the way in double-figures. Davidson (15 points), Hagensick (14 points), Konichek (12 points) and Gage Wall (11 points) paced the Royals in scoring while Briar Wall and Kaden Roberts each added seven points, Baker and Thomas Caya both added five points with George rounding out the scoring total with two points. Konichek and Oppriecht were the leading rebounders for the Royals with seven each, while Gage Wall added eight assists.
Seneca has won four games in a row and five of their last six to improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Ridge & Valley Conference. Seneca returns to the court this Thursday night when they host Weston starting at 7:15 pm.
