The Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben girls wrestling team took part in the second annual Bi-State Classic girls tournament this past weekend at the La Crosse Center and placed 36th out of 75 teams with 53.5 points.
Leading the way for B/W-S was Lexie Lathrop, who rallied to place 12th at 235 pounds following a loss in her first match to Nekoosa/Wisconsin Rapids Assumption/Port Edwards’ Lexie Stoflet. Lathrop responded to the loss by winning each of her next three matches including getting wins over North Crawford/Seneca’s Zoey Logue and Neenah’s Emma Verbrick. Lathrop dropped her final three matches of the tournament to Bay Port’s Autumn King, PdC’s Addyson Claycomb and Beaver Dam’s Maricela Loomans.
Just missing a spot in the final 12 at the 126 pound weight class was Alayna Krachey, who went 4-2 on the day. After losing her first match of the day to Mosinee’s Payton Nechuta, Krachey responded with wins over Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Catholic/Granton’s Ashley Fitzgerald, Pulaski’s Reese Burich and Eau Claire North’s Lindey Haller. Krachey was then defeated by Sparta’s Karyna Carlson to conclude her tournament run.
Other Hornet girls competing at the tournament were Ali Jelinek (107 pounds), Aalyiah Lathrop (138 pounds), Mallory McCullick (145 pounds) and Ava Roth (185 pounds). Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben next hits the mats on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Lee Griffin Girls Tournament at Kickapoo High School.
