The MFL MarMac girls basketball team’s offense came alive last week in wins over Central and Postville.
In the Dec. 17 match-up at Central, the Bulldogs closed the first quarter up 21-3, thanks to a 17-0 scoring run. They controlled the momentum the rest of the game, winning 55-26.
The Bulldogs were a season best 45.7 percent from the field and knocked down five three-pointers. Central hit just seven field goals all night, but four threes, and turned the ball over 18 times to MFL MarMac’s nine.
Evelyn Fritz provided a spark off the bench, hitting all four of her shot attempts for 11 points. She also had one rebound and one assist. Autumn Shaw, Emma Driscoll and Ava Kishman all scored seven points, while Kacie Picha and Cora Keehner had six apiece. Picha topped the rebound and steal columns with four each.
Hot shooting continued Dec. 20 at Postville, as the Bulldogs surpassed their season high in points with a 70-15 victory.
No individual statistics were posted at press time.
The wins propelled MFL MarMac to 5-3 overall and 5-1 in the Upper Iowa Conference. The Bulldogs are tied for second with Turkey Valley, the only UIC team to beat them this season. Kee sits atop the rankings.
The Bulldogs will return from winter break on Jan. 2, playing Houston, Minn., in the rescheduled Border Battle in Decorah. On Jan. 3, they will take on 2-5 West Central.
