The MFL MarMac boys wrestling team is off to a 6-1 start in duals following a pair of competitions last week.

The Bulldogs won both duals in a Dec. 5 quad in Monona, starting with a 48-30 result over North Crawford-Seneca.

Ty Koeller (132), Gavin Kishman (138) and Rylan Schroeder (144) all earned falls, while Tacoma Thompson (113), Quinn McGeough (165), Austin Schaller (175), Dayne Kohrs (190) and Will Howes (285) collected wins via forfeit.

Brandon Eaton (126), Kase Paulus (157) and Dracen Howe (215) were pinned in their respective matches. The Bulldogs forfeited at 120 and 150 pounds and there was a double forfeit at 106.

Later that night, despite the dual ending deadlocked 30-30, MFL MarMac secured a win over DeSoto by scoring first in more matches.

Kishman, McGeough, Howes and Thompson all pinned their opponents, with Thompson battling to a dramatic fall that tied the score. Schroeder gave the Bulldogs points with a forfeit win.

Eaton, Koeller, Schaller and Tristan Hoopes all lost by fall, and Kohrs was unable to continue his match due to injury. There were double forfeits at 106, 120, 150 and 157 pounds.

MFL MarMac followed that up by going 4-1 at the Cascade Dual Tournament the following night. The team’s first win came over Bellevue, 39-32, aided by falls from Schaller, Hoopes, Howes and Thompson, as well as a 7-3 decision for McGeough. Koeller and Kishman won their matches by forfeit.

Zuercher lost his bout by major decision and Paulus and Schroeder were taken down by technical falls. The Bulldogs forfeited at 120 and 157 pounds and there was a double forfeit at 106.

In the second dual, the Bulldogs came out on top of Clayton Ridge 45-30. McGeough, Schaller, Howe, Howes and Schroeder all picked up falls, while Koeller won a 13-7 decision.

MFL MarMac won a pair of matches due to forfeit, but lost two the same way, and neither team fielded a wrestler at 106 pounds. Eaton, Kishman and Paulus were all pinned in their respective matches.

The Bulldogs earned a 48-24 victory over Cascade in the third dual, thanks to four wins by forfeit and falls courtesy of Howes, Thompson, Kishman and Schaller.

Zuercher, Koeller and Schroeder lost by fall and MFL MarMac had to forfeit at 157 pounds. Neither team had wrestlers at the 106 and 120 weights.

In the fourth dual, MFL MarMac edged Dubuque Wahlert 36-34. Howes picked up his fourth fall of the night at heavyweight, and Thompson, McGeough, Kishman and Schaller also pinned their opponents. Eaton won due to forfeit.

Howe, Schroeder, Zuercher, Paulus and Koeller were all on the losing end of their matches. The Bulldogs again forfeited at 157, and there were double forfeits at 106 and 120.

Washington defeated MFL MarMac 56-24 in the final dual of the night. The Bulldogs earned falls thanks to Howes, Thompson, Koeller and McGeough, but couldn’t overcome pins to Eaton, Kishman, Paulus, Schaller and Howe. Schroeder lost by technical fall and Zuercher was on the wrong end of a 15-8 decision. Washington also picked up forfeit wins at 106, 120 and 157 pounds.

The Bulldogs have a pair of dual meets this week, at Beckman Catholic on Dec. 10 and Lancaster, Wis., Dec. 12. They will also compete in the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament on Dec. 14.
