MFL MarMac off to impressive start

The MFL MarMac boys basketball team is off to a 3-0 start, after scoring a trio of blowout victories in the opening week of play.
The first was a 67-45 win over Waukon on Dec. 2, in which the Bulldogs shot over 44 percent from the field and hit 10 three-pointers.
Up just six points at the end of the third quarter, MFL MarMac went on a 26-10 run in the final period to seal the win.
Parker Kuehl tallied 15 points—nine coming from behind the arc—as well as six rebounds, four steals and an assist. Landyn Miene made four of five shots from the field and scored 11 points. His seven rebounds tied for the team lead and he also had a pair of blocks.
Brock Hackett finished the game with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Wesley Corlett chipped in nine points, seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist off the bench.
On Dec. 3, MFL MarMac built a 22-6 first quarter lead over Turkey Valley and never looked back, winning 81-46.
The Bulldogs landed nine more long-range shots in this game and were 47.9 percent from the field, aided by the defense’s 17 steals.
Miene was just shy of a double-double with 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Kuehl totaled 13 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals, while Carter Lightfoot put up 13 points, five assists, three steals and a rebound. Eli Hanson knocked down five of his eight shot attempts, including a pair of threes, for 12 points. He also grabbed three rebounds. Brock Hackett was the fifth player to hit double digits, with 10 points, and added two rebounds and two steals.
MFL MarMac built another early lead in the Dec. 6 game at Clayton Ridge, up 19-5 by the end of the first quarter and 31-17 at halftime. They continued to pull away to a 64-35 victory in the second half.
The Bulldogs’ field goal percentage dropped to 40.6 percent against the Eagles and the team hit fewer three-pointers, but benefitted from a turnover disparity of 29 to 15 after forcing 21 steals.
Kuehl had seven steals alone, to go with his team-high 19 points, five assists and five rebounds. Miene was a nearly perfect eight of nine from the field, for 17 points, and secured eight rebounds and a block. Hanson’s stat line included eight points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal, while Hackett finished with seven points, three steals, three rebounds and an assist.
MFL MarMac has another three games this week, starting with Edgewood-Colesburg on Dec. 9 and at South Winneshiek Dec. 10. The Bulldogs will face Houston, Minn., in the Border Battle at Decorah on Dec. 14.
