Several Central girls wrestlers placed second at the Midland Girls Invitational on Nov. 26.

Wrestling at 135 pounds, Mayleigh Medberry started with an 18-3 technical fall over Olivia Magruder from Lone Tree. She then needed just 85 seconds to pin Linn-Mar’s Asiya Hussein in the quarterfinals, and dispatched of Olivia Coates from Midland in 62 seconds in the semifinals. The night ended in a three-and-a-half-minute title match loss to Isabella Giza of Bettendorf.

Competing at 130 pounds, Reese Berns took 46 seconds to defeat Candy Solovi from Postville in the quarterfinals, but had a harder time getting past Alyssa Eckhardt from Midland, needing almost five minutes to secure the fall. Berns entered the first place match without a blemish on her record, but suffered a 10-6 loss at the hands of West Delaware’s Kylee Shoop.

The 110-pound class included Brynn Meyer, who fought her way to the first place match with falls over Kaitlynn Crump of Bettendorf in the quarterfinals and MyTran Doung from Clinton in the semis. She went on to lose the first place match via fall to Bettendorf wrestler Olivia Hernandez.

Goodrich lost by fall to Kat Diprima from Fort Madison in the semifinal, and was also pinned by Hannah Crane from West Delaware in the consolation semis. She finished fifth, thanks to a 39-second fall over Northeast wrestler Melanie Kenworthy.
