The MFL MarMac girls wrestling team was back in action at the Nov. 26 Midland Girls Invitational.

Their efforts were led by senior Mackenzie Bachman, who won the 125-pound varsity bracket. After pinning her way to the first-place match, Bachman dispatched of Bettendorf’s Qendresa Selmani by an 11-4 decision to claim the top spot.

Sister Kennedy Bachman also had a successful night, winning her first two bouts by fall before losing a tight 6-4 decision to West Delaware’s Addison Schulte in the 100-pound final.

Ashlyn Blake claimed fourth place at 105 pounds. After losing her opening match, the freshman rebounded with a fall in the first consolation round. She lost the consolation semifinal by 7-5 decision and was pinned in the third-place match by Carlee Sexton from Lone Tree.

Senior Audrey Ruff also placed fourth. After dropping the quarterfinal, Ruff cranked out three straight wins to advance to the 170-pound third-place match. There, she was pinned by Liv Lonergan of Clinton.

Junior Bayleigh Wood went 0-2 and did not place at 135 pounds. Freshman Isla Henkes also lost two matches at 170 pounds and did not place.

The Bulldogs compiled a team score of 75, putting them 11th of 14 teams. Bettendorf won the invitational with a score of 195.5, well ahead of Fort Madison’s 171.5.

This week, MFL MarMac competes in a tournament at Central on Dec. 3.
