Norbert Carl Moore was born on April 28, 1937, in Bloomington Township, to Marcella (Cathman) and Melvin Moore, the third of four children.   Norbert entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 3, 2024.  Norbert grew up in the Bloomington area and attended the Red School in rural Bloomington. After school, he joined the workforce, farming and in construction for Zenz Quarry and Slaght Construction. He later worked for Hermsen’s Hardware, and MPC. At MPC, Norb was noted for his ingenuity and created devices for short cuts that MPC later patented.  After his retirement from MPC, Norbert continued in the farming industry, for Steiger Farms and for Mike Ellis Farms.

Norbert married Marjorie Kress on July 7, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  After their marriage, the couple made their home in Milwaukee for a short time, where Norb worked in construction.  In 1969, they returned to Bloomington, where he has resided since. Norbert and Marge had one son, Mark, born in 1957.

In more recent years, Norbert, and nephew Dale, enjoyed their morning coffee and breakfast with friends at Ma’s Bakery as well as Friday night fish fries at Bluejays.

Norbert is survived by two grandchildren: Kurt (Janet) Moore and Tanya Moore. He is further survived by two great-grandchildren: Aviana and Braydon; many honorary great-grandchildren; a very special friend and caregiver, Ruth Peters; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Norb was preceded in death by his wife, Marge in 2021; his son Mark in 2010; and his grandson Jim in 2001; his siblings: Glen, Stanley and Marilyn Horstman.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 7, at 11 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington, with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating.  The burial will be in Blake’s Prairie Cemetery, Bloomington Township. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given to the West Grant Rescue Squad.
