McGregor Pharmacy to close
In a letter to customers last week, the McGregor Pharmacy announced it would be closing on Dec. 8.
“Various challenges have made it difficult to remain in business,” the letter said.
According to the letter, Clayton Drug in Elkader has agreed to maintain patient prescriptions and records. Prior to closing, any questions regarding patient prescriptions or records may be answered by contacting the McGregor Pharmacy at (563) 873-3781. Following the closing date, questions can be directed to Clayton Drug in Elkader at (563) 245-2530.
The pharmacy thanked customers for their loyalty.
“We would strongly encourage patients to continue to support similar businesses like Clayton Drug with your patronage and utilize their services,” the letter stated.
Dennis Alcorn is the current operator of the McGregor Pharmacy. He took over the business at 230 Main St. in 2013, after the retirement of Larry Brummel, who had owned and run the pharmacy with wife Maria for 37 years. At the time of the transition, an article in the North Iowa Times stated the McGregor Pharmacy was the second oldest pharmacy in the state. The business has been operating for over 150 years.
