McGregor-Marquette kicks off holiday shopping season on 'Pink Friday'

McGregor and Marquette retailers will kick off the holiday shopping season on Friday, Nov. 22, with a new event celebrating Pink Friday.
Pink Friday was first launched in 2020 by Boutique Hub, a worldwide network connect boutiques and small business retailers, wholesale brands and product makers.
“It comes before Black Friday and is designed to encourage people to shop small and support local first, before other shopping days,” explained McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary Anderson, who was turned on to the day by Free Spirit Boutique owner Laura Davies Carlson.
To celebrate, the chamber has organized “Pink Takes the Cake.” Wear pink or purchase pink merchandise from 1 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 22, and you can enjoy a piece of cake or cupcake from a participating retailer. Businesses include By the Spoonful; Daisy Kay Crystals, Coffee and Gifts; Eagles Landing Winery; Free Spirit Boutique; The Left Bank Shop and Gallery; McGregor SpecialTea Shoppe; Navy Rose Co.; Paper Moon and Kwik Star.
“Other communities have seen success when food is served at events, so we thought ‘Why not have cake?’” Anderson said. “Cake or cupcakes will be available while supplies last.”
Additionally, Pink Friday is the kickoff to the Santa Shops Small Holiday Giveaway, a collaborative punch card promotion between McGregor, Marquette and Prairie du Chien businesses. Pick up a card at a participating business and get a punch for every $10 you spend. Fill a card and drop it at one of the participating businesses for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate. This promotion will run until Dec. 20.
Anderson hopes community members will take the opportunity to support small, local businesses, particularly those in Marquette and McGregor who have been impacted by two years of construction.
“A lot of retailers are excited to have the road open,” she said. “There’s no reason not to come and get holiday gifts in McGregor and Marquette.”
