With a 3-1 loss to host Southwestern in last Tuesday night’s division 4 regional quarterfinal, coach Dianne Langmeier and the River Ridge volleyball team concluded the 2024 season with an overall record of 11-13.
As the No. 10 seed in their division 4 playoff bracket, the Timberwolves fell to the No. 7 seed Wildcats in four sets.
After losing the first set by a score of 25-15, coach Langmeier’s squad evened things up by winning the second set, 25-17.
The host Wildcats followed up with wins of 25-15 and 25-20 to close out the match and bring an end to River Ridge’s season.
“As a team, we had 24 spiking errors, which seemed to be the determining factor in the game,” said coach Langmeier.
Leading the Timberwolves at the net was senior Reghan Zinkle, who put down a team-high 10 kills to go along with 27 digs and two blocks.
Fellow seniors Maya Drone and Alix Goeke added six and five kills respectively.
Dishing out a team-high 25 assists was sophomore setter Mallory Crubel, while junior libero Josey Drone had a team-high 31 digs to go along with two service aces.
“Our floor captain, Reghan Zinkle, had some nice attacks at the net and finished with 27 digs, while Maya Drone also had a nice night at the net with six kills,” explained coach Langmeier.
“In the backcourt I thought Josey Drone, Ellaina Gage, Reghan and Emily Tesar all did a nice job of digging balls up and getting them to target so we could set up our offense,” Langmeier added.
Along with an overall match record of 11-13, the Timberwolves finished fifth in the Six Rivers West conference standings with a league record of 4-8.
Coach Langmeier will lose five seniors from this year’s squad, which include Hailey Kramer, Maya Drone, Emily Tesar, Reghan Zinkle and Alix Goeke.
“We will really miss this year’s seniors,” said coach Langmeier. “They have been an awesome group of girls to work with.”
