River Ridge runners compete at D3 Sectional Meet

Members of the River Ridge boys and girls cross country teams put the finishing touches on the 2024 season last Saturday at the division 3 Prairie du Chien Sectional.
While the River Ridge girls finished 10th of 13 teams with a score of 220, the boys finished 14th of 19 teams with a score of 363.
In the girls race, Westby and Darlington advanced to the state meet as the top two teams, Westby with 42 points and Darlington with 75.
Katie Field, a sophomore at Royall/Wonewoc finished first of 106 runners with a time of 19:11.0.
Leading the River Ridge girls was sophomore Leah Patterson, who finished 11th overall with a time of 20:29.4.
Patterson, who was a state qualifier last season as a freshman, missed out on going to state for the second time by 11 seconds.
She was followed by fellow sophomores McKenzie Taylor in 43rd (23:12.4); Yoselin Bautista in 63rd (25:03.8), Kristina Sletten in 72nd (25:47.2) and Chloe West in 73rd (25:47.6).
On the boys side, Iowa-Grant and Boscobel advanced to state as the top two teams, Iowa-Grant with a team score of 88 and Boscobel 109.
Iowa-Grant senior Bret Connelly finished first of 134 runners with a time of 16:53.6.
Leading River Ridge was senior Luke Patterson, who finished 28th overall with a time of 18:20.3. He was followed by junior Mason Pecinovsky in 53rd (19:14.5); senior Colton Moris in 80th (20:17.4), junior Colton Kirschbaum in 108th (21:40.4) and junior Luke Breuer in 112th (22:13.7).
To advance to the WIAA State Championships, runners must either be members of the top two teams in each sectional, or among the top five individual finishers who are not members of a qualifying team.
Individual state qualifiers on the boys side include: Cuba City senior Noah Wood, Wauzeka-Steuben senior Brett Wagner, Southwestern/Benton freshman Josh Richardson and Lancaster sophomore Marshall Harris.
Individual state qualifiers on the girls side include: Fennimore sophomore Natalie Horsfall and Fennimore junior Kylee Mumm and Southwestern/Benton freshman Maci Reichmann.
