The Prairie du Chien, Seneca and Wauzeka-Steuben Cross Country teams all ran this past Saturday at a D3 Sectional Meet hosted by Prairie du Chien High School at the PdC Country Club in Bridgeport.
Earning a trip to this weekend’s WIAA State Championship Meet at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids with a third place individual finish was Wauzeka-Steuben senior Brett Wagner in a time of 17:06.
Wagner is the first Hornet boy to qualify for the state meet since Jake Reichmann in 2019.
The Prairie du Chien boys team led all local teams by placing fourth out of 19 teams with 169 points. The Hawks missed qualifying as a team by 60 points as only the top two teams qualify for the state meet. The fourth place finish by the Prairie boys ties the 1991 team for the best team finish at a WIAA Sectional Meet in program history.
Leading the way for the Hawks individually was Sam Kramer in ninth place in a time of 17:36, just missing qualifying as an individual by 3 places. He was followed by teammates Spencer Foley in 11th (17:48), Treyton Reames in 41st (18:45), Landon Smith in 51st (19:10), Lane Henderson in 57th (19:31), Joey Kramer in 103rd (21:51) and Carter Neis in 118th (25:22).
Following the Prairie boys was Wauzeka-Steuben in tenth place with 269 points and Seneca in 15th place with 364 points. Besides Wagner, the Hornets got contributions from Nolan Reed-Mullikin in 34th (18:32), Cody Wagner in 68th (20:00), Josh Martin in 76th (20:15), Parker McCullick in 88th (20:47), Andrew Mezera in 93rd (21:01) and Stetson Zeeh in 123rd (31:30).

The highest placing local girls team was Wauzeka-Steuben in seventh place out of 13 teams with 205 points. They were led by Isabella Bunders in 26th (22:19), Emma Udelhoven in 40th (23:27), Ellah Jones in 45th (23:44), Alayna Martin in 46th (23:51), Mallory McCullick in 48th (23:57) and Leah Peralta in 55th (25:14).
