The Seneca and Wauzeka-Steuben cross country teams competed at the 2024 Ridge & Valley Conference Championship Meet on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Krachey/Enke Fields outside Wauzeka.
The Hornets placed second as a team in both races. The Hornet girls scored 58 points with junior Isabella Bunders finishing in sixth place in a time of 23:05 to earn first team all-conference honors. Earning second team honors for the Hornet girls was ninth grader Alayna Martin with an 11th place finish in a time of 24:09 and junior Emma Udelhoven in 12th place in a time of 24:13. Rounding out the meet for the Hornet girls was sophomore Ellah Jones in 14th (24:44), sophomore Mallory McCullick in 15th (25:41) and junior Leah Peralta in 16th place (25:49). Seneca senior Livian Starkey finished in 28th place with a time of 29:11).
The boys race saw the Hornets finish in second and the Royals in fifth place with 116 points. The Hornets got two first team all-conference selections with sophomore Nolan Reed-Mullikin (second place in a time of 17:50) and senior Brett Wagner (fifth place in a time of 18:23) while Royals senior Gabriel Hamann made second team all-conference with his ninth place finish in 19:16.
Wauzeka-Steuben also got contributions from freshman Cody Wagner in 15th place (19:55), senior Parker McCullick in 18th place (20:48), freshman Josh Martin in 20th place (21:00), junior Andrew Mezera in 26th place (22:19) and freshman Stetson Zeeh in 39th place (31:39).
Hamann was joined by fellow Seneca seniors Jaren Grimsled (17th place in a time of 20:41), Thomas Caya (21st place in a time of 21:07) and Simon Fek (32nd place in a time of 24:01) and sophomores Pablo Altadill-Salmon (37th place in a time of 26:49) and Grant Sime (38th place in a time of 29:07).
Next up for both schools is the D3 Sectional Meet this Saturday, Oct. 26 at the PdC Country Club.
