Injuries hamper Central in loss at Kee
By Willis Patenaude | Times-Register
The Central football traveled to Kee last week for a Friday night showdown against the Hawks, looking to rebound from a homecoming defeat. However, a rash of injuries and some minor mistakes led to a 44-0 Warrior defeat.
“While it may not seem like it, Friday night was a program win for us. The scoreboard does not reflect the effort and mentality that we kept until the final whistle. We unfortunately got bit by the injury bug, but people stepped up to fill vacant positions to help the team,” said coach J.W. Downs.
Mason Loan led the team in tackles and had an interception as well as a few pass deflections. Maddux Eglseder and Preston Kulper also had interceptions, but the Warrior offense was unable to capitalize on the turnovers, and the defense gave up 278 passing yards and 132 rushing yards.
Heading into the final game of the regular season, Downs said the “first priority is to try to get everyone healthy going into week eight. We want to focus on improving on all sides of the ball. We want to be able to execute our assignments flawlessly, to send these seniors out on a good note, who have done so much for this program.”
Individual player stats were not available for this game.
The Warriors will close out the regular season at home versus the West Central Blue Devils on Friday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
