Holst and Ruegnitz are Central’s top finishers at South Winneshiek meet

The Central cross country team took part in the South Winneshiek Invitational on Oct. 8, in preparation for the Upper Iowa Conference meet this week.
The boys team ran to a third place finish with a total score of 106, finishing behind Waukon in second with a score of 50 and Decorah in first, who finished at 18.
Gavin Holst was the top finisher for the Warriors, placing 18th in a time of 17:36.9, followed by Carson Ruegnitz in 21st at 17:44.3.
Jesse Polkinghorn crossed the finish line in 38th, with Tyce Zittergruen was 52nd, Henry Reimer 78th and Vaughn Zittergruen 84th. Bryce Heller placed 86th, Michael White 92nd, Griffin Koehn 112th and Breckon Holst 119th.
Central was seventh as a team in the girls race, with the top placement earned by Blair Scherf, who ran the race in 23:27.6 to finish in 40th. Coral Rork was next in 43rd, with a time of 23:32.3. Alexis Thiese finished 69th, followed by Hannah Friedlein in 71st, while Aspen Rork crossed the line 106th. Layla Embretson finished 109th, Lily Becwar 116th, Mya Gregerson 124th and Brooke Tieden 134th.
The Warriors will race at home at the Elkader Golf and Country Club this Thursday, Oct. 17, for the Upper Iowa Conference meet. It’s scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
