Bulldogs challenge area’s top cross country teams

The MFL MarMac girls cross country team—now ranked 20th in Class 2A—challenged some of the top teams in the area with a fourth-place finish at an Oct. 8 meet at South Winneshiek. The Bulldogs scored 112 points, trailing only Decorah’s 38, Waukon’s 60 and South Winn’s 67.
Cora Keehner led the effort, placing 13th with a time of 21:12.4. Brooke Donlon crossed the line in 22:00.2 for 19th. Skylar Fisk, Charlotte Meyer and Evelyn Ruff finished a respective 37th through 39th with times of 23:15.2, 23:16.5 and 23:25.1. Taryn Moser took the 50th spot in 23:50.4, and Kennedy Bachman raced to 54th in 24:09.2.
Lauryn Sandstrom placed 82nd, Emma Koether 84th, Emma Driscoll 99th, Samantha Ruff 108th and Mariah Moser 119th.
In the boys race, Jacob Schellhorn turned in another top-10 finish, placing seventh with a time of 16:45.4. Tucker Ruff’s time of 19:34.1 put him 53rd. Payton Schultz came in 126th with a 25:18.6.
Next, the Bulldogs will compete in the Upper Iowa Conference meet at the Elkader Golf and Country Club on Thursday, Oct. 17.
