Bluegolds stopped by Black Hawk/Warren

Visiting Black Hawk/Warren spoiled Wauzeka-Steuben’s homecoming last Friday night when they handed the Bluegolds a 52-14 defeat. The Warriors claimed a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and 30-0 at halftime before the Bluegolds were able to add a pair of second half touchdowns as Black Hawk/Warren won 52-14.
Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben got on the scoreboard with 3:14 left in the third quarter when Carson Sime broke through the defense for a 28-yard touchdown run. Cooper Lomas found Jackson Konichek on a two-point conversion pass to make the score 36-8.
Konichek would add a touchdown of his own in the fourth quarter as he would recover a Black Hawk/Warren fumble and return it 99 yards for a touchdown with 9:50 left in the game. Lomas’ two-point conversion pass no good and the Bluegolds trailed 36-14 but it was as close as they would get as the Warriors would two late touchdowns to claim the 52-14 victory.
The loss dropped the Bluegolds record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Six Rivers Conference, while Black Hawk/Warren improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play with the victory. Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben needs one win to put themselves on the bubble for the postseason and two wins in their final three games to clinch a spot in the postseason.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier this week as the Bluegold travel to Cassville High School this Friday night to take on the undefeated and number one ranked team in Division 7 in Potosi/Cassville.
