Sept. 22, 1952–Sept. 26, 2024

Kevin Bradley Welch, 72 of Monona, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at his home in Monona, surrounded by his family. 

Kevin was born Sept. 22, 1952, to Ralph and Eloise (Moose) Welch in McGregor, Iowa. He was baptized and received his First Communion at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa. Kevin graduated from MFL High School in 1970 and joined the United States Army. He served from 1970 to 1972 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.

Kevin owned Welch Excavating for numerous years after taking over the business from his dad, Ralph. He enjoyed working hard and taught his sons how to be meticulous with doing the right things the first time. In 2015, Kevin knew it was time to leave his legacy to his son, Nathan, who has continued the family business. Kevin had still been involved until his illness in January 2024.

Kevin and Lori were committed to each other for 33 years and were united in marriage on July 6, 1991, in an outside wedding in Beulah, Iowa, with family. They enjoyed going on Harley rides, traveling to Puerto Vallarta and spending time with family and friends. He was a very proud Dad and Papa and enjoyed attending the grandkids school functions and sport activities. His family and friends will forever treasure memories of gatoring down at “The Bottom,” celebrating special family gatherings, 4th of July Gator parades and fireworks. 

Preceding Kevin in death were his parents, Ralph and Eloise Welch; step-mother, Joan Welch; one brother, Larry Welch; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Stella Moose; paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Caroline Welch; three brothers- in -law, Rex Ewing, John Koresh and Tom Moses; and one sister-in-law, Kim Trappe.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Lori; three sons, David (Svetlana) Welch, Bradley Welch and Nathan (Genna) Welch; grandchildren, Kaylee Walch, Brayden, Jace, Gracyn, Brooks, Paisley and Koda Welch; brothers and sisters, Wayne (Jodi) Welch, Curt (Vicki) Welch, Karen Moses, Mary (Galen) Govier and Celeste (Richard) Turner; mother-in-law, Sheron Trappe; brothers -in -laws, Larry (Lynette) Trappe, Loren Trappe and Leon Trappe; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, McGregor, Iowa. The Rev. Martin Coolidge will be the celebrant. There will be no visitation prior to the memorial mass on Friday morning. Attendees are asked to please come in and be seated.

Inurnment with Military Honors will be held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, rural McGregor, Iowa, following the memorial mass.

A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will also be held on Friday, Oct. 4, at Backwoods in McGregor, Iowa, from 2-4pm. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa, and Crossing Rivers Hospice.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
