Council ends shared CV/Chamber agreement
By Shelia Tomkins
At a special meeting on Sept. 16, the Guttenberg city council, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce board, voted to terminate a shared employee agreement. The action followed a recommendation from the city personnel committee that the council discussed at length at its monthly meeting on Sept. 9 (see last week's issue).
The shared position was held by Brandie Tomkins, who has served as Chamber director since 2020. She became the joint Community Vitality/Chamber director in 2022, when the former CV director resigned from that city position. The council then decided to combine the two positions, and placed the director on the city payroll.
Chamber of Commerce vice president Jessie Eulberg was present at the short special meeting on Monday.
In a related action, and after going into closed session, the council voted to end the city's employment contract with Tomkins. That contract was for the joint community vitality/chamber director position that no longer exists.
The city will continue its financial support of the Chamber with a monthly donation of $1,666 ($20,00 a year) to the Chamber per the existing 28E agreement. The Chamber board is now solely responsible for overseeing the director position.
