January 24, 1942–September 13, 2024

Dale W. Pettit, age 82 of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. 

He was born Jan. 24, 1942, to Walter and Lorena (Fett) Pettit. Dale married Kathleen Gustke and together they had two sons. They were later divorced but continued to support their boys through every stage of life. 

Dale became skilled in many trades over the years becoming known for his small engine repair abilities and as a boat mechanic working at the local marina. He also spent many years as a heavy equipment operator on road-work crews and driving semi truck. 

Dale is most fondly remembered by many as their school bus driver in and around the Prairie du Chien area. 

Dale enjoyed trap shooting, traveling to the mountains for hunting or fishing trips with friends and family while also, enjoying time hunting and fishing closer to home. 

He was surrounded by many dear friends made throughout the years, whether from the time he spent at the Falling Rock Walleye Club or as part of trap-shooting-leagues. Those individuals were more than friends to him; they were family, and together they shared lifetime's worth of stories. Dale truly loved his family and was a constant presence at his children’s and grandchildren’s events. 

He is survived by two sons, Michael (Mandy) Pettit, Prairie du Chien, and their two children, Mackenzie and Mikey, and Jason (Megan) Pettit, Oconomowoc, and their two children, Savannah and Isabelle. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Donald Pettit. 

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 22 from 4–7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien. Interment will be held privately at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. www.garrityfuneralhome.com.
