Ronald Leigh Reimer, 84, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Ronnie was born on Jan. 27, 1940, the second son of Haldon and Marie (Eberhardt) Reimer; seven siblings were born after him. He was born on the family farm where he grew up. From an early age, he always knew he wanted to be a farmer. He was often found going off with his dad to take care of chores and learned how to operate the family tractor at the early age of seven. He graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1958. He was united in marriage with Mary Eilers on April 1, 1959. They welcomed four children into their family.

Ronnie earned the Iowa Star Farmer Award in 1959. Then, he spent the rest of his life honoring this award by spending his days tending to his livestock, crops and his family. He loved planting the crops and watching them grow and especially enjoyed fall harvest. He took pride in soil conservation and keeping everything looking neat and tidy, and spent many hours mowing waterways and ditches. He always enjoyed a drive down to the pond for peace of mind, to relax and maybe even a game of cards with friends. He always made time to visit. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an honest man and taught this value to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; four sons, Chuck (Judy) Reimer, Thomas Reimer, Rod (Nancy) Reimer and Jason (Lesa) Reimer; 11 grandchildren, Steve (Val) Reimer, Heather (Dave) Fulks, Mason (Eva) Reimer, Cagney and Devin Reimer, and Keaton, Kurt, Lola, Nash, Cruz and Dirx Reimer; four great-grandchildren, Trenten and Landon Reimer and Aiden Schoof and Katelyn Fulks; and his siblings, Kenny (Alice) Reimer, Doug (Kathy) Reimer, Susie (Jim) Dinan, Linda (Chris) Schoulte and Donna (Dan) Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Loren Reimer, Faye Wiethorn and Michael Reimer.

A private graveside service will be held at Garnavillo City Cemetery at a later date.
