June 26, 1960–August 30, 2024

Jenny Lou Lindberg, 64, was called to be with the Lord on Aug. 30, 2024, at her home near Patch Grove after a courageous, six-month battle with Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a highly aggressive blood cancer.

Born on June 26, 1960, in Fort Atkinson, to Delaine (Frohmader) and Warren Kachel, Jenny spent her early years on the family farm in Jefferson, WI. Her high school years were spent at Fort Atkinson High School, where she met her high-school sweetheart, and future husband, Jon Alan Lindberg. The two were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church on Jan. 2, 1982.

In 1980, Jenny completed an associate’s degree in data processing at Madison Area Technical College. She went on to work in the field of computer programming at various companies throughout Milwaukee as well as the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., area. She retired from her computer profession in 1993 to raise her four wonderful children.

Besides being a wonderful God-given lifelong companion, Jenny was forever a kid at heart. She could strike up a conversation with anybody, particularly youth of all ages, showing genuine interest in everyone that she came in contact with. Her life’s focus was children, her own, along with others in her church life, 4-H, and her many supportive roles at the River Ridge Public schools. She led music for Sunday school, vacation bible school, and the Christmas Programs for many years. She organized and ran an after-school program at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore. She served in 4-H as a club leader, and as a clothing superintendent at the Blakes Prairie Fair. As a mother, she encouraged and supported her children’s efforts in submitting hundreds of fair entries each year. Jenny was a strong supporter of the River Ridge music program, helping with the Pep band and serving as the president of the Music Boosters. In the late 1990’s she began to work as a substitute aid, eventually receiving her substitute teacher’s certificate, allowing her to work in both capacities until earlier this year. When the phone rang early in the morning, letting her know that she was needed at school, she would approach her day with excitement and joy, no matter what class she was going in to support.

Jenny’s much-loved hobbies included photography, knitting, quilting, gardening and cooking, all of which she passed on to her children, who were her greatest joys in life. She enjoyed traveling with her immediate family, as well as taking trips with her sisters and mother. To her family, her hand made Christmas gifts will be a reminder of her generosity and talent.

Those Jenny leaves behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 43 years, Jon; her children, Naomi Lindberg of Fitchburg, Nathan (Katelyn) Lindberg of Browntown, Jacob Lindberg (Ashley Trentz) of Mineral Point and Tova Lindberg of Madison; mother, Delaine Kachel of Fort Atkinson; brother, Dan (Jean) Kachel of Athelstane; sisters, Diane Kachel (Mike Hotter) of Johnson Creek and Lynette Adams of Windsor; brother, Roger (Kim) Kachel of Monticello; sister at heart, Nancy Wheeler of Fort Atkinson; and brother-in-law, Brent (Kellie) Lindberg of Mukwonago. Jenny also leaves behind eleven nieces and nephews, sixteen cousins, and countless others who cherished her friendship.

Jenny is preceded in death by her father, Warren Kachel, and brother-in-law, John Adams.

The visitation for Jenny will be held on Sept. 20, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church (201 S. Michigan St., Prairie du Chien).

A celebration of Jenny’s life will be held on Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., also at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church at 10 a.m. on that day.  A luncheon will occur immediately after the service for all who are in attendance.  Inurnment will occur at a later date.

Memorials will be put towards the American Cancer Society’s lymphoma research as a dedicated gift in Jenny’s name.

The family would like to thank the medical and surgical staff of St. Mary’s Hospital on the 5 SW floor in Madison, the Oncology staff of SSM Dean Health in Madison, the Crossing Rivers hospice staff in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Miranda Klosterboer and Pastor Hillary Burns-Kite for their care and compassion during Jenny’s six-month fight with Burkitt’s Lymphoma.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with Jenny’s remains. Please consider signing our online guest book (www.graufuneral homes.com) to share your condolences with the family.
