Wayne W. Barrett
Wayne W. Barrett, 76, of Oelwein passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo. A graveside service will begin at 3 p.m. at Clayton Cemetery in Clayton.
Wayne was born Dec. 13, 1947, in Ray, Arizona, the son of Morvin and Rosella (Holtey) Barrett. He graduated high school from Elma Immaculate Conception High School. After graduating, he served in the United States Army Reserve from March 29, 1967 to Oct. 31, 1972. He married Helen Balk on Nov. 29, 1969, in Garnavillo.
He worked as an iron worker and owner operator for 35 years before he retired. He loved to go fishing and ride his Harley. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Helen; children, John W. (Barb) Barrett of Emmetsberg, Clint (Lisa) Barrett of Evansdale, Alishia (Trent) Boelman of Waterloo; grandchildren, Roxy (Charlie) Metcalf, Danny Barrett, Katie (Steve) Hodge, Jesse (Alex) Rus, Keagan (Mariah) Barrett, Wayne Barrett; great-grandchildren, Emilia, Alivia, Morgan, Yael, Phinehas, Collin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Morvin Barrett and Irene Deckard; daughter, Bonnie Puls; and grandson, Chance Barrett.
