Floyd R. Welsch
August 27, 1931–July 31, 2024
Floyd R. Welsch, age 92 of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien from respiratory complications.
He was born Aug. 27, 1931, to Clarence and Wilhelmina (Campbell) Welsch.
He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School with the class of 1950 before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Floyd married Norma Govier on Nov. 22, 1952, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien and together they raised four children.
Floyd managed Gebel’s Laundry, Paint, and Feed Store and Zeitler’s Feed Store in Prairie du Chien for many years before owning and operating Floyd’s Farm and Home until retirement.
Floyd enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and vacationing up north. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and always loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Floyd was a grateful recipient of a heart transplant 27 years ago and was proud to be recognized as one of UW Hospital’s longest surviving heart recipients.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 64 years, Norma, on Aug. 20, 2016.
He is survived by four sons Floyd “Rick” (Lynette), David (Susie Rasmussen), Scott, and Jim (Barb) Welsch; three sisters Maxine Krogman, Rita (Larry) Hinkel, and Linda Schneider; seven grandchildren Spencer (Katie), Alexandra, Amy, Scottie (Jordan), Daniel (Morgan), Becky (Dylan McClain), and Katy Welsch; four great-grandchildren Aidan, Devon, Murray, and Fiona; and numerous nieces and nephews including his special niece and God Daughter Robbie Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers George “Poncho” and Clarence Welsch; two sisters Jean Novey and Ruth Moris; brothers-in-law Bob Schneider, Ed Novey, Richard Krogman, Bob Tubbs, and Cy Moris; and sisters-in-law Mary Ann Welsch, Barb Tubbs, and Dorothy Welsch.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pastor Miranda Klosterboer officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien.
Military honors were accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.
