Alan Eugene Troester, 62, of Guttenberg, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at University Iowa Hospital, in Iowa City.

Visitation and memorial services were Wednesday, July 31, at Morris Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Alan was born on July 25, 1961, to Eugene Troester and Norma (Lamphier) Nelson. He graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1980.

Alan had been employed most recently with the City of Guttenberg as a Linesman. He was often referred to as the Magic Man. He retired in April 2022.

Alan married his high school sweetheart, Sandra (Rohner) Witte, in 1981. They were married 16 years, and to the union came two children. They later divorced in 1997. In 2013, Alan met his soulmate Bobbi Wilson. They realized all they needed was each other. They continued to build a relationship they never thought possible. Alan is also a grandfather and an uncle. Alan loved to spend time outdoors doing what he loved. That might be spending time in the timber searching for mushrooms or ginseng. He enjoyed many types of hunting and fishing. He also loved to just tinker and mess around with stuff that was broken to fix it or make it better than before. Alan was a man of few words and emotions, however, he loved his family and closest friends unconditionally.

Alan is survived by his soulmate, Bobbi Wilson; his daughter, Tina (Rob) Hagarty; daughter-in-law, Desiree Troester; and his five grandchildren, Rick, Ben, Kennedy, Landon, and Reagan; sisters, Debbie Troester, Virginia Shefelbine; and a brother, Calvin (Angela) Troester and numerous nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Ryan; parents; grandparents; several aunts and uncles, and brother-in-law.

Alan gave the gift of life through liver donation and has restored life’s promise for a family. Alan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
