April 1, 1943–July 20, 2024

Dale J. Payne, 81, of Seneca, passed away peacefully Saturday July 20, 2024, at Dove Health Care Center with his wife Rochelle by his side.

Dale was born on April 1, 1943, to Milfred and Judith (Grimsled) Payne. He was the oldest of eight children.

After graduating from Seneca High School in 1961, Dale served six years in the National Guard. Dale served the Seneca community owning Payne’s Mobile, Payne’s pub, Ken Wilkins Electric, a member of the first responders, and driving bus for the Seneca School District for over 30 years. The first face many kids saw as they climbed the steps of the bus to the school. Dale’s smiling face would ease the jitters of the first-time students.

Dale and Rochelle Harris married April 7, 1990, joining their families. Dale enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and cutting wood with his children and grandchildren. You could always find Dale soothing a crying baby pacing the house with a baby on his hip. He was always the last to the table, putting together one of his food concoctions nobody could believe he ate.

He is survived by his wife Rochelle; his siblings: Jim (Darlene) Payne, Vicki Linder, Deborah (Lenny) Davidson, Rick Payne, Butch Boland, Donald Rynic; his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Angie (Marshall) Mabb, Amber Mabb (Matthew Ziegler), Clayton (Kirsten and Bentlee) Mabb, Preston Mabb, Peder (Cindy) Payne, Kyle (Caitlin) Shepard, Sarah Shepard, Emma Payne, Jacob Payne, Ben Payne, Ed (Terri) Payne, Vincent (Beckett and Collyns) Payne, Alexis Payne (Justin, Liam, and Luke Sime), Morgan Payne (Zach, Ivy, Miles, and June Stluka), Nick Payne (Haley Wall and Aida Payne), Olivia (Isaiah and baby) Teynor, Ava Payne, Christian Payne, Aiden Payne, Leo Payne, Nolan Payne, Milo (Julie) Payne, Taylor (Austin, Oliver, and Tate) Kapinus, Jared Payne, Evan Payne, Lily Payne, Landon Payne; along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Milfred and Judith Payne, Milo and Juanita Harris, Judy K Fisher (Lloyd), Brian Fisher, Gary and Anne Payne, Bonnie Boland, Bob Boland, Bernie Linder, Pete and Vicki Wilkinson.

Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the loss of a great man, husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. We will always cherish the times spent together whether it be family gatherings, camping trips or sporting events. Grandpa Dale was always one of the biggest fans and so proud of our children and grandchildren. His love for his family will never be forgotten. We are forever grateful for the memories made and will never forget him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Seneca Town Hall. Please join us following the Celebration of Life for a luncheon at the Seneca Town Hall.  Online condolences can be made at www.rothfamilycremation.com.
