WarEagles play at Field of Dreams

The Clayton Ridge-Central WarEagles had a special experience on June 25, when they played on the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville against Nevada High School. They also played South Winneshiek and Turkey Valley in varsity doubleheaders on June 24 and 27.
The WarEagles hosted the South Winneshiek Warriors in a varsity doubleheader on June 24, losing both games by scores of 6-1 and 9-0. In the first game, Isaac Loan allowed just one earned run in five strong innings. He also was 1-4 in the game. Max Nuehring drove in the WarEagles’ only run. In the second game, Carson Ruegnitz went 2-2.
The Field of Dreams game was a JV and varsity game with the varsity playing first. Mason Loan went 1-3 with an RBI and Tate Hoeger pinch hit in the seventh inning and was 1-1 with an RBI. In the JV game, the WarEagles lost 10-3. Tate Hoeger pitched two innings and allowed one earned run.
The WarEagles split their games against the Turkey Valley Trojans on June 27, losing the first game 4-2 and winning the second 10-9. Max Nuehring got the ball in the first game and shut the Trojans down, striking out 11 batters and pitching six and one-third innings before reaching the pitch limit set forth by the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s rules. The Trojans then loaded the bases and launched a walk-off grand slam over the center field wall. Max Nuehring went 3-4, Dom Mast went 2-3 and Owen Hammersland went 2-4 in the loss.
Jack Scherf pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs in the second game. Seth Kregel went 2-4 in the game, and Mason Loan went 4-5.
