The Warriors softball team continues searching for its first win of the season after being handed three more losses last week after struggling to score runs and defensively.
In the opening game of the week, the Warriors went on the road to play the Waukon Indians. The game started out well for Central, as they took a 1-0 lead, which lasted until the bottom of the third inning when the Indians put up four runs. The Warriors responded in the top of the fourth with one run, closing the gap, but Waukon scored another nine runs in the bottom of the fifth and secured the 13-2 victory.
“Good game defensively and offensively. Proud of my athletes as they worked hard,” coach Abby Cummer said.
The Warriors offensive leader was Ashlyn Scherf who had two hits and one RBI in the game, followed by Oakley Armstrong who collected one hit. Tenley Bormann and Reese Berns both scored a run in the game. As a team, the Warriors hit for a .120 average with three hits, four walks, three hit by pitches, and five strikeouts. Scherf pitched 0.2 innings allowing two hits, five runs, and two walks.
The week of play concluded with conference action on Wednesday night with a double-header against Kee High Hawks. In game one, the Hawks put up one run in the bottom of the first and second innings, exploded for ten runs in the bottom of the third, and would take the win by the score of 12-0.

On the mound once again were Blair Scherf and Bormann, who combined gave up two hits, 12 runs, and eight walks while striking out one. In game two, the Warriors were down early after the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Central held the Hawks scoreless over the next two innings, but the Hawks bats came alive over the next three innings, scoring a combined seven runs and taking the 10-0 win.
