The Clayton Ridge Central WarEagles had a busy week June 3-7 with four varsity games and four JV games. On Monday, June 3, the week opened at home against Kee High with a varsity doubleheader. The next day, June 4, the WarEagles traveled to Calmar to face the South Winneshiek Warriors in both JV and varsity action. Finally, on Thursday, June 6, they went to Postville to play the Pirates at both JV and varsity levels. In addition, there was a JV morning doubleheader at Kee High on Wednesday, June 5.
The WarEagles dropped their first game against the Keehawks 7-0. Their struggles with runners in scoring position continued in this game as they couldn’t capitalize on several opportunities. The WarEagles lost the second game of the doubleheader as well with a final score of 12-6. Max Nuehring went 2-4 in the game and drove in a run. Kahne Bolsinger launched a two-run homerun over the center field fence in the seventh inning.
The WarEagle varsity dropped their game against South Winneshiek 11-1. Colton Hoeger pitched the final two innings and shut the red-hot Warrior offense down, allowing no runs on four strikeouts in his outing.
The JV WarEagles lost their game against the Warriors 9-4. They hit well and put the ball in play but their pitching struggled. Their fielding was shaky as well, with seven errors on the night.
The JV won at Postville 12-7 on Thursday. Myka Bries got the ball for the WarEagles, with Griffin Hammersland pitching in relief. The WarEagles hit very well, and drove in runs with 11 of their 12 runs being earned. The team fielded well also.
The varsity played one of the best games of the year and won 12-2. Max Nuehring pitched all seven innings, allowing two unearned runs and striking out 13 batters. Mason Loan went 3-4 and stole four bases. The team played very good defense during the game.
In addition to these games, there was a JV morning doubleheader at Kee High on Wednesday. They lost both games, 10-0 and 3-0. Kasten Oberbreckling doubled off the wall in the second inning of the first game and Aiden Claycamp slashed two singles, but the team couldn’t capitalize on these opportunities.
