Linda L. Meyer
Linda Laverle Meyer, 85, of Elkader, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Elkader Care Center.
She was born Sept. 1, 1938, on a farm near Volga, to Ralph and Evelyn (Streicher) Crawford. She attended Volga schools, graduating from Volga High School with the class of 1956.
Linda was united in marriage to Keith Meyer on Feb. 5, 1957, at Peace Evangelical Reformed Church in Elkader. She became a farm wife and the couple became the proud parents of two sons, Jeff and Scott.
During high school, Linda worked two summers as a waitress near Sioux Falls, S.D., and before their marriage, she was a waitress at the Checkerboard Café in Elkader. She also worked at the Elkader Greenhouse before she owned and operated her own greenhouse on the farm for 25 years. She was a master gardener, obviously - loved gardening and reading. She had a garden plot at Osborne Nature Center and even sold dried flowers. Her thumbs were definitely green! Linda was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Jeff (Sue) Meyer of St. Olaf and Scott (Tammy) Meyer of Earlville; her four grandchildren, Andrew (Heidi) Meyer, Benjamin (Cari) Meyer, Michael (Jennifer) Meyer and Ashley (Jesse Metzger) Meyer; eight great-grandchildren; sister Joyce Baumgartner of St. Olaf; sister-in-law, Delores Crawford of Arlington; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Keith on Sept. 9, 2012 and two brothers, James and Paul Crawford.
A celebration of life was held on May 31, at Johnson’s Reception Hall in Elkader.
Private family inurnment will be held.
