Kay A. Schaffer

Kay Ann Schaffer, 71, of Edgewood, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, surrounded by family, at her home in rural Edgewood. She was born Sept. 21, 1952, in Dubuque, the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (Oberbroeckling) Loeffelholz. Kay was raised in the Petersburg and Dyersville areas and was a 1970 graduate of Western Dubuque High School.
On July 12, 1975, Kay was united in marriage to Fred Schaffer at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. Four children were born to this union. Kay worked as a CNA at the Elkader Care Center. She retired in 2018.
Kay was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and the St. Mark Choir. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and was a member of several card clubs. Kay was a 4-H leader for many years. She was a member of the Edgewood Garden Club and Edgewood Legion Auxiliary. Kay and Fred enjoyed traveling together. She was a loving wife and mother. Kay loved her family and enjoyed their time together.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Fred Schaffer of Edgewood; four children, Sarah (Paul) Wilson of Viola, Wis., Leo (Ashley) Schaffer of Elkader, Glen (April) Schaffer of Edgewood and Kari (Nathan) Erickson of Edgewood; 13 grandchildren, Tristan, Dakota, Cheyenne and Brea Wilson, Henry and Josh Schaffer, Quintin, Leila, Kristy, Timothy and Blake Schaffer and Gemma and William Erickson; brother, Dave (Joyce) Loeffelholz of Dyersville; sister-in-law, Diane Loeffelholz of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Betty Loeffelholz; grandson, Aiden Schaffer; brother, Gene Loeffelholz; and parents-in-law, Leo and Myrtle Schaffer.
Visitation was June 3, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood. Mass of Christian Burial was June 4, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood, with Father John Haugen officiating. Inurnment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, rural Littleport.
