City water main project will start on S. River Park Drive
By Shelia Tomkins
The first phase of a major Guttenberg water main improvement project was expected to begin on May 28, pending permitting and favorable weather.
Top Grade Excavating was the low bidder at approximately $1.2 million. The project will be financed in part with up to a $1.5 million loan from the state revolving loan fund. The city also has a CDBG grant of $500,000 to finance this phase of the project.
The project includes the installation of new water mains, service lines to the curb stop, sidewalk replacement and driveway replacement for those removed as part of the project.
The project area includes South River Park Drive from Schiller Street to Koerner Street, Koerner Street from River Park Drive to First Street, and South First Street from Koerner to Main Street.
The work will be done in phases, beginning with South River Park Drive to Koerner, expected to be one-lane traffic with brief closures for installation of service lines during June. First Street will be closed in sections: June/July and August through October.
