Central runner Gavin Holst is headed to the state track and field meet in the 3200.
He finished the race sixth in a personal record 10:23.08, punching his ticket to Des Moines on time.
Holst highlighted the boys track and field team’s efforts at the district meet at Edgewood-Colesburg on May 9, which included seven personal records and nine top-10 finishes across 10 events.
In addition to the 3200, Holst placed sixth in the 800, followed by Henry Reimer in 15th, who had a personal best time of 2:26.93.
Braden Taylor was 22nd in the 100-meter dash, while Jacob Cook finished 10th and Michael White 20th in the 200. Kyle Reinhart was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles, and Reimer had a seventh-place run in the 400, followed by Declan Finley in 21st. Finley was also 11th in the 3200 and 14th in the 1600. He finished the latter behind teammate Carson Ruegnitz, who was 10th.
The Warriors opened the meet with a ninth place finish in the sprint medley, before adding sixth in the 4x800 with Reimer, White, Vaughn Zittergruen and Ruegnitz. The 4x400 team of Zittergruen, Reinhart, Reimer and Holst also finished sixth.
Central competed in just one field event, the shot put, where Cook came in 13th and Taylor 26th.
Holst will face 23 other Class 1A runners in the 3200 at Drake Stadium on May 16. The race is scheduled to start at 3:50 p.m.
