Hammersland makes it to districts

The Central girls golf team capped off the season with two meets, starting with the Upper Iowa Conference meet at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette on May 7.
The Warriors finished fifth out of eight teams with a total score of 458. Tessa Sylvester was 13th individually with a 108, followed by Makayla Erickson in 15th with a 109. Gracie Kennicker finished 23rd after shooting a 118, Caitlyn Druecker earned a 123 for 30th place, Katie Royer shot a 124 to place 32nd and Peyton Finley was 40th after carding a 141.
The girls followed that up with regionals at Lone Pine Country Club in Colesburg on May 10. The Warriors finished fourth as a team, shooting a 463, and were led by top finisher Erickson. The senior turned in a 124 to place 25th, while Sylvester was right behind her in 25th with a score of 126. Kennicker was 33rd after shooting a 132, followed by Druecker in 35th with a 134 and Royer 36th with a 135. Finley hit a 142 to place 39th.
The Central boys also golfed twice last week, starting with the Upper Iowa Conference meet at the Guttenberg Golf & Country Club on May 6.
The Warriors finished sixth with a team score of 392 and were led by Owen Hammersland, who finished 16th after shooting an 87. Kale Doeppke was Central’s next highest placing golfer, finishing 26th with a score of 95. He was followed by Max Fettkether in 32nd with a 104, and Isaac Loan shot a 106 to secure 35th. Caden Fette put together a 40th place finish with a score of 114 and Marcus Evans was 42nd with a 115.
It was off to sectionals Silver Springs Golf Club in Ossian on May 8, as the golfers attempted to qualify for districts. Central finished sixth after compiling a team score of 374. Hammersland finished fifth individually with a round of 80, advancing to districts. Doeppke was next in 21st, with a season low 93, and Fettkether also hit a season low of 98 to finish 31st. Evans shot a 103 to place 34th, while Loan carded a 104 to finish 37th and Fette was 40th after totaling a 108.
Hammersland competed in districts in Mason City on May 14. More information will be provided in next week’s edition.
