MFL MarMac last week won the Upper Iowa Conference girls golf title for the first time in 50 years.

Following up an undefeated conference schedule, the Bulldogs shot an 18-hole season low 395 at Big Rock Country Club on May 7 to win the eight-team tournament. North Fayette Valley was a distant second with a 415.

MFL MarMac boasted the top two golfers, as Devon Meyer continued a stellar sophomore season with a 95. Teammate Kaylee Baker was a stroke back, with a 96.

Bulldog Kaylin Garbes tied for fifth with a score of 101, and Hannah Jacobson turned in a 103 to tie for eighth. A 117 put Morgan Jacobson in 16th place, followed by Clare Grau in 18th with a 120.

MFL MarMac followed that up with a fourth place finish in the Class 2A regional at Pleasant Valley Sports Club on May 10. The Bulldogs shot a combined 411, trailing Sumner-Fredericksburg’s 331, Denver’s 380 and Crestwood’s 392.

Not surprisingly, the Cougars had three of the top five golfers in the 18-hole meet. Medalist Chloe Bolte shot a 69, distancing herself from Crestwood freshman Ainsley Teeling, who was second with a 76.

Garbes and Meyer tied for 14th, each shooting a 98. Hannah Jacobson ended with a 104, in 21st place, while Baker claimed 25th with a score of 111. Morgan Jacobson was 29th with a 116 and Grau 36th with a 121.

MFL MarMac ended one of the most successful seasons in program history with eight meet wins and placed fourth or higher in four others, including last week’s regional.
