Prairie United Youth Soccer spring season underway
By Derick Kelly
The Prairie du Chien United Youth Soccer club began their 2024 spring season earlier this month. Practices take place in PdC while matches happen every Saturday in Richland Center.
The club is opened to youth ranging in age from kindergarten to eighth grade. Younger players from kindergarten to second grade practice once a week while those in third through eighth grade practice twice a week.
Matches are held in Richland Center on Saturdays over six weeks for grades three through eight while the younger players compete in a four week schedule. The youngest group competes in Prairie du Chien.
According to youth coach Heidi Koresh, “The program’s main focus is not on competition but the development of skills and knowledge of the sport while maintaining a fun atmosphere.”
The weekly practices are run by US Soccer licensed coaches and members of the Prairie du Chien/River Ridge/Seneca varsity girls soccer team.
The program has 66 players registered for the spring recreation league and is open to all youth interested with no experience required.
The PdC/River Ridge/Seneca girls team hosted the club on youth night prior to their home match against the River Valley Blackhawks on Tuesday, April 23. The Hawks welcomed the youth players into their pre-match routine, including walking onto the pitch for the starting lineups alongside the River Valley Blackhawks.
For those interested in learning more about the club or having their kids participate, the club has a Facebook page titled PDC Soccer- Prairie United.
