There are many health benefits associated with purchasing a gym membership and using it on a regular basis. When you dedicate yourself to living a healthier lifestyle it is advantageous to surround yourself with like-minded individuals who will support you on your journey. Regular exercise is proven to boost your energy level and mood, reduce stress, and improve your overall health.

Guttenberg Fitness

No matter what your fitness goals are, Guttenberg Fitness, located at 419 US HWY 52, (the former Anytime Fitness facility) in Guttenberg, is open to members 24 hours a day to accommodate your schedule.

Business partners Jarid Grinstead, and his wife, Taylor, are excited to be part of Guttenberg's growing business community.

Promoting healthy lifestyles

The former Clayton Ridge graduates are both advocates for embracing a healthy lifestyle. Taylor Grinstead, DNP, is a primary care provider with Cornerstone Family Practice in Guttenberg, and Jarid, whose lifelong passion was to own a fitness facility and supplement store, has been dedicated to staying healthy since high school. "I started lifting weights during my freshman year," Jarid noted. "I was not very strong and wanted to participate in sports that required a high level of fitness."

His hard work and dedication paid off the following year when he had the confidence to participate in high school football, wrestling and track.

Jarid, who is currently the Clayton Ridge High School wrestling coach, jumped at the opportunity to purchase Anytime Fitness when it became available. "Although the name has changed, the same 24 hour service remains," he assured.

Hammer Strength equipment

The couple has added a Hammer Strength Chest Press, Shoulder Press, and Calf machine as a free weight option, in addition to all the other existing workout equipment.

"When I turned 30 it became more important to keep track of what I was putting into my body for my future health and stamina, and less about how much I could bench press or squat," Jarid commented. "Taylor and I also want to set a good example for our almost two-year-old son, Jaydin."

Members can still enter the facility with a key fob, but a Geokey phone app is also available. "Just tap on the Geokey icon and the front door will open," explained Jarid. "I can literally open the front door from anywhere in the world."

New products

The Grinsteads are adding a small amount of supplements, including preworkout and protein powder as well as Quest Snacks, that are a healthier alternative and contain more protein than traditional snacks in the front lobby, along with a new line of Guttenberg Fitness merchandise such as hoodies, T-shirts and hats.

"The tanning bed is still available. And by request, Matt Tielbar will be on hand to provide personal training services," he listed. "I am working hard to take over the Silver Sneakers and Renew Active program accounts that Anytime Fitness honored – but it does take time. In the meantime, current program participants are eligible for a reduced price membership."

Longtime fitness members Janice Andregg and Shirley Schmelzer and new members Ken and Kim Davis are thankful for the new owners.

"I am grateful the Grinsteads purchased Anytime Fitness. Jarid is happy to help out if you need anything," commented Andregg. "It is a wonderful facility to help you reach and maintain your fitness goals, and the socialization aspect is very important. You meet so many new and interesting people that you would never know if you hadn't met them there. It's a good place to make new friends."

"I am excited to have a fitness center in Guttenberg because it is close to my home and it is open 24/7," said Schmelzer.  "I have made many new friends who also workout when I do.  Following the workout I have a group of friends who have coffee together and we enjoy each other.  I like the socialization. If wanted, a trainer is available for further exercises. For me it is a great experience and fun."

"We really appreciate the approach of the new management at Guttenberg Fitness. It was obvious that Jared realized the importance of the Senior’s "Silver Sneakers" payment program which they hadn’t been certified for yet," Kim noted. "He proactively worked with us so that it made sense to keep our membership while he worked towards Silver Sneakers certification. As a result there hasn’t been a single hickup in gym availability to us. Thank you for your flexibility Jarid."

"Having a membership to the gym is the best motivation that there is for exercising more often. For me it is a daily reminder to 'Just Do It!' Having that membership makes it much easier than the constant struggle against putting exercising off until tomorrow which exists with trying to work out at home. Part of that motivation is that the gym community is constantly encouraging you to both show up, and to be your best," explained Ken. "After all, isn’t that really what we all need? To get the motivation to exercise regularly, and do your best so you can be your best! That’s a key component of Guttenberg Fitness."
