Central girls win at home, but boys struggle on the golf course

Warrior Tessa Sylvester put together a 52 to place fourth in the meet at MFL MarMac. Central lost 206-231.

Owen Hammersland was among Central's top boys finisher in the meet at MFL MarMac on April 22. He tied for seventh after shooting a 51.

Makayla Erickson came in fifth against MFL MarMac, with a 57.

The Central golf team had a busy week on the greens, starting with the entire team playing the MFL MarMac Bulldogs at Tri City Golf Course on April 22. 

 

On the boys side, the Warriors put up a team score of 209, losing to the Bulldogs’ 163. Owen Hammersland and Marcus Evans were the highest placing golfers from Central, tying for seventh after shooting a 51. 

 

Max Fettkether was eighth with a 52, followed by Isaac Loan in ninth with a 55, Caden Fette 10th with a 59 and Ryan Schroeder 11th, after shooting a 67. 

 

The girls lost to MFL MarMac 206-231. Tessa Sylvester finished fourth after putting together a 52, followed by Makayla Erickson in fifth with a 57. Caitlyn Druecker tied for sixth with a 60 and Gracie Kennicker finished eighth after closing the meet with a 62. Katie Royer was 11th with a 66 and Brandi Herman shot a 71 to finish 12th. 

 

The following night, Central headed to Guttenberg for the Clayton Ridge Boys Invitational, where the Warriors finished fifth with a score of 411, well behind meet winner East Buchanan’s 352. 

 

Hammersland had the best finish among the Warriors, coming in 17th with a 95 on the par 72 course. Loan finished 24th after shooting a 103, followed by Evans in 25th with a 105 and Fettkether in 26th with a 108. Jack Scherf finished 28th with a round of 109, and Fette was 30th after putting up a 119.

 

The final meet of the week was April 25 versus Turkey Valley. 

 

The boys lost to the Trojans 208-178, with Hammersland placing third with a 45, just three strokes behind the winner. Kale Doeppke finished the night with a 48, placing sixth. He was followed by Evans in ninth with a 52, Loan in 10th with a 63 and Jamison Feickert 11th with a 63. Jake Hertrampf turned in a 67 to place 12th. 

 

The girls pulled out a win over the Trojans, their team score of 227 defeating Turkey Valley by five strokes. Druecker won the meet with a 47, four strokes better than runner-up Morgan Vsetecka. Sylvester was third with a 56 and Kennicker finished sixth with a 61. Erickson shot a 63 to place eighth, followed by Peyton Finley in 10th with a 65. Herman was 12th after shooting a 68. 

 

The Warriors welcomed Clayton Ridge to Elkader on April 29, then the boys will play May 1 at the Columbus Catholic Invitational. The whole team will be in action on May 2 at Silver Springs Golf Course, where they will face off against South Winneshiek.
