Central golfers win at home but struggle on the road

The Central golfers were back on the course last week with meets versus West Central and North Fayette Valley. Both teams went 1-1 with an individual winner each.
The boys’ home meet at the Elkader Golf and Country Club versus West Central was a closely contested nine-hole match, with the Warriors taking the win by a single stroke, 191 to 192.
Central’s Owen Hammersland shot a 41, three strokes better than runner-up Nolan Cushion from West Central, and was the meet medalist. Caden Fette finished fourth after shooting a 48, followed by Isaac Loan in sixth, carding a 49. Jack Scherf finished eighth with a 53 and Kale Doeppke and Marcus Evans rounded out the top 10, both shooting a 56.
The following meet was on the road, at Clermont’s Pleasant Valley Sports Club against North Fayette Valley. The Warriors finished with a team score of 208, well behind the TigerHawks’ 172.
Leading the way for Central was Hammersland, who finished third with a 43, three strokes back of meet winner Tanner Wilker. Loan placed seventh with a 51, Max Fettkether shot a 55 to come in eighth and Jake Hertrampf capped off the top 10 with a 59. Fette totaled a final score of 60 and Evans shot a 61.
It was similar results for the Central girls, who easily beat the Blue Devils by 21 strokes, 222-243.
Gracie Kennicker was the medalist with a nine-hole total of 50, and the runner-up was Tessa Sylvester, who shot a 51. Caitlyn Druecker was fourth with a 60, followed by Katie Royer in sixth with a 61 and Payton Finley eighth with a 64. Makayla Erickson was 11th, after hitting the clubhouse with a 68.
At North Fayette Valley, the Warriors were consistent but came up short, losing by 10 strokes, 212-222. Druecker and Sylvester both finished with a 53, and Kennicker shot a 57 to place sixth. Erickson hit 59 to come in seventh, Royer shot a 62 for eighth place and Finley was ninth, finishing the meet with a 63.
The boys started this week April 22, at the Tri-City Golf and Country Club against MFL MarMac, followed by an April 23 meet at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club. The schedule also includes a home match-up versus Turkey Valley on April 25.
The girls’ upcoming schedule included a match at MFL MarMac April 22, followed by a home meet versus Turkey Valley on April 25.
