Warriors start golf season with victories

Central’s golf season got underway last week, with a girls invitational hosted by Clayton Ridge in Guttenberg on April 8th. As a team, Central shot a 504, finishing fourth behind East Buchanan, who won the meet with a score of 399, as well as Beckman Catholic in second and MFL MarMac in third place. 

 

Tessa Sylvester shot a 107, and led the Warriors with a ninth place finish. Makayla Erickson shot a 123 to finish 17th. Caitlin Druecker was 23rd after shooting a 136, Katie Royer finished the 18 holes with a 138 to place 25th, Brandi Herman shot a 146 to finish 26th and Jillian Finley was 28th after scoring a 158. 

 

On April 11, Central hosted Postville at the Elkader Golf Course, with both the boys and girls in action. 

 

On the girls side, Central posted a score of 222, beating Postville by 11 strokes. Erickson was the medalist with a final round 49, two shots better than second-place finisher Emily Timp from Postville, who shot a 51. Sylvester finished third with a 56, Gracie Kennicker shot a 57 to finish fourth, Druecker and Royer both shot a 60 to tie for sixth and Finley was 10th with a 65. 

 

The boys also took down the Pirates, their team score of 195 besting Postville by 45 strokes. Central swept the podium, with Owen Hammersland earning medalist honors with a 41, while Isaac Loan finished second with a 49. Marcus Evans shot a 52 to take third. Max Fettkether was fourth with a score of 53, Jake Hertrampf tied for sixth with a 57 and Keaton Klingman was seventh with a 58. 

 

The Warriors returned to the course April 15, versus West Central. Both teams will travel to NFV April 18.
