Success in both relays and individual events propelled MFL MarMac boys track and field to a pair of top-three team finishes last week.
The Bulldogs earned 73 points at the April 8 Decorah Boys Relays, putting them third behind Decorah’s 221 and Waukon’s 78.
The team was aided by second-place finishes in the 4x100, 4x200 and distance medley relays, as well as third place in the sprint medley and sixth in the 4x400.
Senior Wyatt Powell and freshman Kashton Decker led MFL MarMac in the sprints, placing a respective third and fourth in the 100-meter dash. Decker was also fifth in the 200, just behind teammate Anthony Bunting. Brandon Christofferson worked his way to third in the 400, and Rylee Kugel placed 12th.
Jacob Schellhorn and Alex Breuer were the Bulldogs’ only runners in the distance races, placing a respective sixth and 11th in the 800.
Tucker Ruff turned in a pair of solid performances in the hurdle events, with sixth place in the 110-meter and second in the 400. Carter Stoddard leapt to 10th in the 110-meter and Kugel was 12th in the 400.
In the field events, MFL MarMac had a strong showing in both the discus and shot put. Hunter Christofferson threw his way to third place in the discus and Carver Blietz-Bentien was seventh, while Aiden Schoulte earned fourth in the shot and Bryce Diehl 15th.
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into a second-place result at the MFL MarMac Co-Ed Meet on April 11. They racked up 116 points, just five behind winner Crestwood at 121.
The relays were another point builder, as the Bulldogs won the 4x100, 4x400 and shuttle hurdle and came in second in the sprint and distance medleys.
Powell, Decker, Bunting and Blietz-Bentien made up the 4x100 team, and Powell, Decker and Blietz-Bentien were also part of the sprint med with Brandon Christofferson. Stoddard, Kugel, Izayah Streicher and Ruff filled out the winning shuttle hurdle squad. The 4x400 included Brandon Christofferson, Jaxon Millage, Eli Hanson and Schellhorn, while the distance medley had Kade McElwaine, Bunting, Millage and Schellhorn.
Ruff put on another show in the individual hurdle events, cruising to second in both the 110 and 400.
Brandon Christofferson won the 400-meter dash, while teammate Hanson placed third. Breuer came in sixth in the 800-meter run.
Bunting was runner-up in the 200, followed closely by Decker in third. Decker was also sixth in the 100, just behind Powell.
Blietz-Bentien launched a second-place throw in the discus, while Hunter Christofferson wasn’t far behind in fifth. Schoulte and Diehl were a respective fourth and ninth in the shot put, and Hanson finished third in the long jump.
This week’s schedule included another meet at Decorah on April 15, at Kee on April 18 and at NFV on April 19.
