Kevin Lee Brainard Jr., 47, of Chisholm, Minn., died April 2, 2024, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Duluth. He was born Oct. 18, 1976, in Postville, to Kevin Sr. and Janice (Doubek) Brainard and was a longtime Chisholm resident. Kevin was a U. S. Marine veteran. He worked as a millwright for Keetac, U.S. Steel. Kevin was united in marriage to Sarah Shackelton on June 21, 2003 in Chisholm. He was a member of the Northern Traxx ATV Club and the USW Union #2660. He was always proud to be an Eagle Scout when he was younger and was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Wild, and was a loyal ESPN fan.

 

Kevin is survived by his wife Sarah; father Kevin Sr. (Penny) Brainard; mother Janice Brainard (Jeff); children Devone Shackelton, Kordell (Amber) DuCharme and Madison Shackelton; grandchildren Leanora Emery, Owen Baade and Genevieve DuCharme; brother Kent Brainard; niece Brynlee Brainard; and many cousins, friends, aunts and uncles.

 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Brainard. 

 

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, in the Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm, with Rev. Dan Erickson officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Military rites will be accorded by Mid-Range Honor Guard following the service outside the funeral home.
