The Prairie du Chien boys basketball team kept their hot streak going last week thanks to a couple of strong second halves of basketball.
The Hawks traveled to La Crosse on Tuesday, Jan. 30 to take on the Logan Rangers and thanks to a first half of cold shooting and sloppy play marked by turnovers by Prairie, the host Rangers took a 30-16 lead into halftime.
The second half however turned out to be a different story as the Hawks used a 30-11 second half to pull out a 46-40 win, including a 21-5 run over the last nine minutes of the game to stun the Rangers.
Prairie traveled to Dodgeville on Friday, Feb. 2 looking to get over .500 for the first time all season with a win. A cold first half by both teams led to Dodgeville taking a 19-17 lead into halftime.
After a back-and-forth first few minutes of the second half, the Hawks retook the lead at 22-21 with 16 minutes left in regulation and never trailed again. Prairie used 22-9 run over the final 16 minutes to earn the 42-30 win.
Tyler Harris lead a balanced Hawks scoring attack with 13 points. Max Schneider (11 points), Nick McCullick (9 points), Hunter Straka (4 points), and Brady Lenzendorf (3 points) all contributed to the Hawks scoring tally.
The Hawks improved to 10-9 overall with the two wins, and 4-3 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference with the win over the Dodgers.
The Hawks have now won a season high six straight games and eight of their last ten games.
Prairie welcomed former SWAL rival Cuba City to town on Tuesday night before they travel to Platteville on Thursday, Feb. 8 with the Hawks looking to give the Hillmen their first conference loss of the season.
