Grimsled places first at 106, NC/S seventh at Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference Tournament

The North Crawford/Seneca wrestling team competed at the 2024 Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference Tournament at Kickapoo High School on Saturday, Feb. 3 and came away with a seventh place team finish.

NC/S was led by junior Jalen Grimsled who placed first at 106 pounds with two pins in a combined 2:59 of mat time. Following a first round bye, Grimsled pinned New Lisbon’s Kasen Edgerton in 1:16 to advance to the finals of the 106 pound bracket. In the championship match, Grimsled pinned Royall’s Brendan Rick in 1:43 to claim the title.

Thomas Sprosty placed second at 144 pounds. Following a first round bye, Sprosty earned a birth in the championship match by defeating Brookwood’s Henner Gomez via pin in 2:16. Royall’s Colin McKittrick, a 2023 state qualifier at 132 pounds, pinned Sprosty in 1:04 to claim first place.

Sawyer Swiggum took third for NC/S at 190 pounds. After falling to Royall’s Trenton Frye via pinfall in 1:30, Swiggum recovered with two wins to wrap up his day with a third place finish. He defeated Royall’s Addison Ebert in 0:10 in the consolation semifinals before  pinning De Soto’s Keagan Kolden in 2:46 in the third -place match.

North Crawford/Seneca begins the postseason on Saturday, Feb. 10 when they travel to Mineral Point for regional competition. The top four at each weight class will qualify for sectional competition on Saturday, Feb. 17, which will also be held at Mineral Point High School.
