Central wrestlers traveled to South Winneshiek last week for the Upper Iowa Conference Tournament, finishing in seventh place as a team.
Braxton Bormann led the team at 126 pounds, where he received a bye into the quarterfinals and took the semifinal match with a 17-2 technical fall. Bormann defeated Bo Wangsness from South Winneshiek by fall in the championship match, to stand atop the podium as the 126-pound UIC champ.
Preston Kulper entered the tournament at 144 pounds, and after receiving a bye into the semifinals, pinned Brady Frieden of North Fayette Valley to earn a spot in the first place match. He eventually lost by fall to Collin Holm from South Winneshiek, to finish second.
Jonah Burns finished third at 106 pounds with a 2-1 record, including a fall in the third place match that lasted almost six-minutes against Postville’s Michael Hill.
Jamison Feickert wrestled at 113 pounds, going 1-2 with a 4-3 decision victory. His losses came via fall and a 6-0 decision in the third place match, putting him fourth in the weight class.
Collin Jaster competed at 132 pounds and went 2-2, with an 11-1 majority decision in the quarterfinals and a fall in the consolation semifinal match. Jaster lost by fall in the semifinals and third place match, to also place fourth.
“Everybody wrestled extremely well and had the chance to wrestle for a medal. It was a great night of wrestling for the Warriors. The team is peaking at the right time and I am very proud of all their efforts,” said coach Joe Koehn.
