River Ridge takes fifth at Ridge and Valley Duals

Coach Brad Lange’s River Ridge wrestling team competed at the Ridge & Valley Duals last Thursday, where they went 1-4 to finish fifth of six teams

Top honors went to the squad from Ithaca/Weston, who went 5-0 in duals, finishing ahead of De Soto who was 4-1. Kickapoo/La Farge finished third at 3-2, followed by North Crawford/Seneca at 2-3. Pecatonica/Argyle was last at 0-5.

River Ridge’s lone dual meet victory came against Pecatonica/Argyle, where the Timberwolves scored 36 points on six forfeits, while giving up 24 points on one pin and three forfeits. There were four double forfeits in the match.

In their 60-12 loss to the champions from Ithaca/Weston, River Ridge scored 12 points on one pin and one forfeit. Collecting the lone pin for the Timberwolves was 132-pound junior Owen Bedward (1:52).

In a 42-18 loss to De Soto, River Ridge picked up two pins and one forfeit, getting pins from 157-pound sophomore Joe Childs (3:49) and 285-pound senior Owen Callahan (1:15).

River Ridge’s dual meet against North Crawford/Seneca was their closet of the day, but fell to the Trojans, 33-24. The Timberwolves scored on three forfeits and a pin by Braden Skaife at 150 pounds.

In a 54-30 loss to Kickapoo/La Farge, the Timberwolves recorded three pins and two forfeits, getting pins from Bedward (1:25), Callahan (0:29) and 138-pound freshman Cael Koenig (0:39).

On the day, Koenig and Callahan each went 4-1.

Going 3-2 on the night were Skaife and Childs, while Bedward was 2-3 with two pins. Freshman Britney Petsche was 3-0 at 165 pounds, while sophomore Tyler Breuer was 1-0 at 175 pounds.

The Timberwolves will next compete at the Scenic Ridge & Rivers conference tournament at Kickapoo High School on Saturday.
